PHP - найти все файлы в директории

Однажды мне понадобилось найти все файлы в каталоге и вывести их в виде отсортированного списка, причём список должен был быть разбитым на группы: директории, файлы, ссылки и остальные не regular files. Хотя имя функии содержит слово рекурсия, поиск файлов осуществляется не рекурсивным методом. Если захотите выводить списком содержимое результата, раскоментируйте закоментированное и закоментируйте необходимое, тогда список файлов станет оптимальным для восприятия человеком. Функция крайне полезна для использования в различных поисках.
